Focus Your Power - Part 1

It all starts with the power amassed by being thoroughly prepared. The strategic advantage and confidence that come with knowing your case. Cold. Make no mistake about it. There is no substitute for hard work, going from knowing simply what happened, to thoroughly understanding how and why it happened. Watching your focus group videos until you get a feel for how jurors see your case and finding that story you can’t wait to tell your jury. However deep you’ve been digging, dig deeper.

Your power amassed, your confidence, that calm relaxed and in complete control feeling that you have at every deposition, every hearing and every trial, all flow from your preparation. Oft times after you thought you had nothing left to give. Your work as a trial lawyer appears natural, effortless. People say things like, “he’s a natural,” “he thinks on his feet,” “he’s a quick thinker.” In reality you may be no quicker at thinking than anyone else.

You embrace the challenge though. You work hard. When you’re not sure what to do, and there’s no internet search, or colleague, or book with an answer that works for you, you trust yourself, you follow your gut, and find the answer that’s right for you right now. You put in more time, more soulful, hard work, and make the sacrifice it takes to help someone who desperately needs your help. That’s how you amass your power.
