Focus Your Power - Part 2

Once amassed, your power must be hyper-focused. Sunzi writes of “The strike of a hawk at the killing snap.” Thoroughly prepared to unleash her power, the hawk is hyper-focused, fast and lethal. With a commanding view chosen for scanning surrounding terrain, telescope-like vision, the hawk plunges steeply downward, wings partially closed at speeds that can exceed 120 mph, all 4 talons fully extended, on contact the talons of her contracting foot driven into the body of her prey.

You too must be thoroughly prepared to unleash your power, hyper-focused, fast and lethal. Whether you’re arguing a motion, deposing a defendant doctor or cross examining an expert at trial, you are hyper-focused and telling a hyper-focused part of your story. Ask yourself continually, is this helping me tell my story and prove my case. If no, don’t do it. At trial too, everything you do must be hyper-focused to tell your story. Every cross-examination outline, every witness kit, every question, must focus on precisely what you want from each witness, form each piece of evidence, and from each question. If it’s not pushing you toward your goal of winning your case, don’t do it. Hyper-focused on your story. Do that. And you’ll win. You’ll change things too.

Until next time . . .
