Marietta Daily Journal Reports on Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Wellstar’s Kennestone Hospital
In September 2020, JHPII, LLC filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Wellstar’s Kennestone Hospital in Georgia and their operative care staff on behalf of Kathy Saunier for the wrongful death of her husband, Billy Saunier, who died as a result of an easily treatable and common reaction to the drug, Heparin.
As reported by Marietta Daily Journal, despite Saunier showing signs of this reaction, medical professionals witnessed known complications to the medication and neglected to act. “Hospitals are required to have policies and procedures in place to ensure this doesn’t happen, and Billy’s entire post-operative care team ignored these lethal complications for days, until it was too late, and it cost him his life,” commented James Hugh Potts II, who is representing Saunier.
Although Saunier showed several well-known signs of this potentially lethal adverse reaction and his doctors suspected it, nothing was done for days. As these symptoms worsened, the standard of care required stopping Heparin and administering a non-Heparin anticoagulant, yet none of the 14 medical professionals acted on this. As a result, Saunier died an excruciatingly painful death.
