However Big You’re Thinking, Think Bigger. As a Trial Lawyer, Start when someone comes to you for help.

Think Bigger: James Hugh Potts II

Welcome to We Win.  Things Change.

However Big You’re Thinking, Think Bigger. Apply this to everything you do in life. To everything you do as a trial lawyer, too. As a trial lawyer, start when someone comes to you for help. Start there. The cases we handle are rarely isolated instances. The cases you handle are likely rarely isolated instances too.

When someone tells you their story, start thinking, why is this happening? However deep your digging, dig deeper. Why did this happen to her? Why did this happen to her child? What’s the root cause of this problem? What sort of systemic failures are at issue here? How many times has this happened before? What could have been done to stop it from happening? How many times will this happen in the future until it is stopped? How do we stop it? Right here.  And right now. Before anyone else is seriously injured or killed? Who knows this is happening? Why aren’t they doing anything to stop it? What will it take?

Carry these thoughts into your case. Employ them when you draw your complaint, in discovery, at depositions, and at trial. It will help you learn and know what your case is really about, how to prosecute it, your goals, your game plan for accomplishing your goals, getting there, how to best implement your game plan, etc. It’ll help you every step of the way.

We’ll spend more time exploring However big You’re thinking, think bigger as a trial lawyer. To help you think bigger, to win your case. And win it for the right reasons.  To change things. You’ll help make the world safer for your client and her family, and for countless other people and families just like hers.

In the meantime, tell yourself, and tell yourself often, However big your thinking, think bigger!

Until next time,
James Hugh Potts II
